INFORMATION: The Pharaohs of ancient Egypt were not known for their easy-to-pronounce names, far from it. There was Pharaoh Siamun, Psusennes, Ahmose, Necho, Shebitku, the list is a long and tongue twisting one. Thankfully, the Pharaoh with perhaps the most difficult name to pronounce of them all, Tutankhamen, is also the only one who developed a nickname in contemporary popular culture, King Tut. While no other Pharaoh can compete in terms of sheer global popularity, King Tut was actually not that well known during his lifetime. His time on the throne was very short, lasting only from 1333 BC to 1322 BC, ending with his untimely death at the age of 19. His young age meant that throughout his reign his vizier, advisor, Ay took care of all the major decisions. With governing the country out of the way, young Tut had a lot of time on his hands, which is where the lemonade comes in.
Although the first recorded account of lemons in Egypt would not be written until about 2300 years after Tut's death, (in a book about a trip to Egypt by the Persian writer Nasir-i-Khusraw), it can be surmised that lemons were in fact known to at least the upper echelons of ancient Egyptian society. The Egyptian empire had a vast network of trade routes so it is entirely possible that the golden yellow fruit made its way up the Nile, perhaps in the hold of an ancient freighter. Now, King Tut, spending his time outdoors gallivanting with his noble young friends would no doubt have worked up an intense thirst as a matter of routine. (Keep in mind the temperatures in Egypt frequently hit 40°C/105°F! That's hot!) And what better way to cool down than with a nice cold glass of lemonade? (OK, lemonade wasn't found in his tomb, but we'll bet it was in there. The tomb was looted thousands of years ago so who knows.) In homage to the ancient King, we offer this exceptional, organically grown grated lemon peel. Use it to create 100% organic lemon refreshments fit for a Pharaoh. Trust us; you've never had Lemonade until you've had Natural King Tut.
