Skin Beautifying and Refreshing Turmeric Tincture Spritzer

Skin Beautifying and Refreshing Turmeric Tincture Spritzer

What is a Spritzer?

This spritzer is made from Golden Glow Tea, a popular blend in our herbal wellness tea varieties. A spritzer is a tall drink usually made with soda water, white wine, or carbonated water.

Our Golden Glow tea contains a beautiful sachet of fruits and herbs that are specially formulated to help your skin get that coveted summer glow from the inside out. It contains ginger, turmeric root, carrot, beet, pineapple pieces, and calendula petals. These fruits and herbs aren’t just known for their delicious flavor. Each has an added benefit in this blend.

The added benefit to each ingredient in Golden Glow tea:

  • Ginger — This powerful root aids in digestion and nausea and is also a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.
  • Turmeric — Not only is turmeric also an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Studies also show that turmeric can prevent heart disease, Alzheimer’s, symptoms of depression, and even cancer.
  • Carrot — Filled with potassium and beta carotene. Beta carotene is not just great for vision but is suitable for overall cellular health as it helps repair skin tissues while also protecting the skin from radiation. Potassium helps hydrate our skin cells deep into the layers of tissue.
  • Beet — High in vitamin C, beets can aid with anti-aging and wrinkles.
  • Pineapple — Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain, which helps sweep away dead skin cells. It also contains beta carotene and Vitamin C antioxidants.
  • Calendula — Calendula promotes wound healing and has been known to help heal acne and improve skin texture.

With thousands of supplements and serums out there on the market can be overwhelming, not to mention expensive, to test out and try each one to see how it might benefit your skin and fit into your self-care routine.

Estero Bay’s Golden Glow tea has been specially formulated to focus on everything your skin needs while being an easy to brew tea. We’ve taken a simple tea recipe and elevated it to an afternoon aperitif that is the perfect refresher to make and enjoy with a group of friends by the pool.

History of Turmeric for Medicinal Use

First used for food, the health benefits of turmeric were discovered by healers along the way. Turmeric is a root that has had medicinal uses for centuries.

Turmeric contains curcuminoids that are the bioactive compounds that give turmeric its signature color and its anti-inflammatory properties. However, turmeric’s first uses were not for not medicine. Turmeric is one of the main ingredients used daily for centuries in curries and spice blends in India.

Curry is a blend of spices that includes turmeric. These blends can vary from region to region and dish to dish but are used daily to flavor vegetable, bean, and even meat dishes.

However, turmeric’s use in food goes beyond just flavor in the Hindi culture. It is considered sacred and almost lucky or favorable by the Hindu gods and is often used in ceremonies such as weddings and other traditions.

Turning Tea into Tincture

Like turning water into wine, extracting your teas into a tincture helps you to ingest and reap all the benefits of the fruits and herbs in the tea blend. Tinctures are often used in herbal medicine as a liquid form of an extracted herb or blend of herbs that you would take orally to assist in curing an ailment, similarly to medicine.

To make a true tincture, you will want to use alcohol as your solvent to extract and preserve an herb’s goodness and health properties. The result is a concentrated, shelf-stable liquid.

Don’t shy away from tinctures simply because alcohol is used to extract the essence of the herbs. The average tincture dose contains the same amount of alcohol as a very ripe banana.

However, tinctures can be extracted using water. They will just not be as strong as pulling all of the herbs’ essences as alcohol and have a much shorter shelf life. Some herbalists also make tinctures with food-grade glycerin.

Making your tea into a tincture is a powerful and flavorful way to transform any beverage into a medicinal aperitif that is just as refreshing as it is healthy. Tinctures can also be the perfect addition to a cocktail or dish, and by keeping a tincture on hand, you can enjoy the ease of taking these powerful herbs as needed, just like taking a dose of medicine.

Skincare in Every Sip

In today’s recipe, we will make our Golden Glow tea into a versatile, skin beautifying tincture that will help promote skin elasticity, anti-aging, and anti-inflammatory properties.

When taken orally, this tincture will help fight off free radicals and keep your skin looking youthful as well as moisturized and soft. We will share with you a few ways you can enjoy this tincture and reap these rewards.

The Turmeric Tincture Spritzer Recipe

Prep Time: 24 hours

Cook Time: 0

Yields: 2 servings

Course: Cocktail/Beverage

Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon dried turmeric for garnish
  • 2 or 3 ounces of any brand of pure vodka or enough to fill the jar and cover herbs entirely
  • Liquid Stevia or Monk Fruit Blend to taste
  • Two cans of your favorite Club Soda or Lemon Seltzer

Tools

  • Fine mesh strainer or a medicine dropper
  • Small glass mason jar with lid
  • Serving glass

We will make a small amount of tincture today—just a few ounces to get you started. If you are interested in making more, you can double or triple this recipe in the future. We’ll then turn this tincture into a refreshing beverage.

Tincture Directions

  1. Since we are starting with dried herbs, we will fill our mason jar halfway filled with our tea blend, or one ounce.
  2. Pour alcohol over the tea blend all the way to the top of the jar, making sure the herbs are entirely covered. This should be about two ounces.
  3. Set your jar in a cool dark place to extract over the next 24/48 hours. You can actually leave your tincture to entirely and fully extract for a period of several days before use. Just be sure to check and see if any of the alcohol has evaporated. Be sure to refill to the top of the jar.

Spritzer Directions

  1. In a glass, add two full droppers of your tincture.
  2. Squeeze in your desired amount of liquid stevia sweetener.
  3. Fill with ice.
  4. Pour in your seltzer or soda water.
  5. Garnish with a maraschino cherry or some fresh fruit.

Taking Tea to a New Level

There is nothing more refreshing and healthful than a warm cup of tea. However, tinctures let you carry your tea with you everywhere. Not only can you create beautiful sodas and spritzers, but you can dilute your tincture into hot water without the wait time for your tea to brew.

Tinctures make it easy for you to enjoy the benefits of your tea on the go as well. Don’t have time to enjoy a cup of tea, simply add two droppers of your tincture to your water bottle for an even more healthful hydration experience.

At Estero Bay, we create all of our tea and food recipes from our high-quality teas, balsamic, and olive oils. We take pride in filling our tea shelves with blends that add not only delightful flavors to your every day but excite you with beneficial and healthy combinations that are just as delicious as they are good for you.
